Manchester City will play Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup this evening as they return to midweek action. In June, Pep Guardiola’s squad defeated Inter Milan in the Champions League final to win the treble and set up this one and only meeting versus the Europa League champions.
Sevilla plays City tonight after defeating Jose Mourinho’s Roma to reclaim the Europa League title. While City will be playing in the Super Cup for the first time tonight, they are familiar with these games and having lost four of them in the previous nine seasons.
After losing on penalties to Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley ten days ago, the Champions League champions now have a second chance in three games to earn some hardware. They beat Burnley 3-0 to get their Premier League campaign off to a strong start, and they hope to bring home another trophy.
