According to The Athletic, a deal worth over $110 million has been reached between Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich for England striker Harry Kane. The 30-year-old must now choose whether or not to join the German powerhouses as he has one year remaining on his current Spurs contract. According to The Athletic, he is leaning toward remaining in London.
With 280 goals in all competitions, Kane is already Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer. In recent years, the Three Lions captain has been linked with both Manchester United and Manchester City. Given Spurs’ decline from UEFA club tournaments over the past three years, the Walthamstow man has been the focus of rumors.
This summer, Kane had many offers from Bayern rejected by Daniel Levy, the chairman of the London club, but an agreement in principle has now been achieved. Spurs were never eager to part ways with their prolific scorer for domestic rivals, which is why United and City’s desire was turned down.
If he does not make a move now, Kane will become a free agent the next year. Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, was determined to keep the team’s talisman, and he even had him play last weekend in a friendly match against Shakhtar Donetsk.
With 213 league goals and 48 goals remaining, Kane, a three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, is just 48 goals short of Alan Shearer’s record total. Kane, who has 58 goals overall and is England’s top scorer, is eager to win major trophies for both club and country, and Bayern has a long history of doing so in Germany and throughout Europe.
